A Dillons store in northwest Wichita is set for a major renovation, according to a Kroger spokeswoman.
Shelia Lowrie tells the WBJ that the Dillons location near 21st and Amidon in Wichita will undergo a “major” renovation, which will touch most of the inside of the store.
“This project will touch nearly every inch of the inside of this Dillons,” Lowrie says. “Work has already started and we expect it to be done by mid-summer. Most of the work will be done at night to cause as little disruption to customers as possible.”
Lowrie says the deli department will see some of the most notable changes. A touch-screen menu board will be added to the department, she says, along with other improvements geared toward the grocer’s grab-and-go concept.
The store’s money services counter will also be merged with its customer service area, Lowrie says. New signage — including an LED sign — will also be added to the store’s exterior and interior. Lowrie added that many of the store’s natural foods and organic products will begin to be housed in the traditional food aisles.
“This is going to provide an improved shopping experience,” Lowrie says. “There will be a few headaches and some heartburn for customers and for the store’s employees, but we think it’s going to be worth it in the end. We want to thank everyone for their patience.”
According to city building records, the work will also include new office space, a new conference room and a number of updated display cases and produce tables. The remodel project will cost a little over $400,000, according to city records.
Lowrie says work has already started on the project. The Law Company Inc. is serving as the general contractor.
Kroger is the parent company of the Dillons grocery chain. The store, located at 1910 W. 21st St. N., is open daily from 6 a.m. until midnight.
