Besides normal pay and benefits what other types of rewards are used to recognize employees? Bonuses, ESOP (employee ownership), service awards, annual family picnic, Christmas party for employee and spouse or significant other, Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts.
What is your company’s most popular perk? Our ESOP and health insurance.
What would others be surprised to know about your firm? If an employee gets seriously hurt or is diagnosed with a very serious disease, the company will keep them on the payroll at full pay until they are able to go on company-sponsored disability (3 months). Also, our health insurance premiums have not increased since 2008 and our deductible amount has not increased since 2005 but the coverage has never changed.
What information do you share with employees? And how do you share it? We try to be transparent in sharing financial and operation results in regular company meetings, and because we are an employee-owned company, we distribute individual stock reports on an annual basis. We also share our safety results which are critical to the success of any construction company.
What employee training opportunities does your company pay for or subsidize? Training for field people. Seminars for office and management. The company also reimburses books and tuition or college classes.
What health insurance coverage does your company provide? The company pays 80 percent of the cost of single or family health (medical and dental) insurance coverage, the deductible is $250 per person / $500 per family and employee coinsurance is on 10 percent for preferred providers.
When employees talk about your company, what do they brag about? Our health insurance; team sharing and support; longevity of employees shows that it is a great place to work; LC takes care of retired employees and never forgets them, also former employees.
What makes your company the best place to work? Our culture is that we treat everyone like family and when the company does well, everyone is rewarded. Also, our ESOP and our benefits make it the best place to work.
How do you help employees reach a healthy work/life balance? We provide generous vacation time and encourage our employees to use it. We also reimburse 50 percent of health club memberships and wellness programs, and provide paid maternity leave.
When it comes to hiring or retaining employees, what is the most important lesson you have learned? Understand the employee’s individual career goals and assist each one in achieving them.
